In the article it talks about how entertainment and social interaction are reasons why people use these websites. Whenever I get bored or even when I am doing homework I go on Facebook. It’s entertaining to see what statuses and pictures people are posting throughout the day. Its easier to interact with people on Facebook then it is face-to-face sometimes. You are able to comment and send messages to people that you may not normally talk to. It allows you to create friendships with new people.

Uses and Gratifications
I
enjoyed reading this article. In the beginning of the article they give background
information about how MySpace and Facebook got started. It’s interesting to
know that Facebook started out as being a college only social networking site
because when I decided to become a member, anyone was able to join. It’s
interesting how fast everything changes because when this article came out
MySpace was the number three most popular site and Facebook was number seven.
Now, Facebook has become the most popular social networking site.

Lauren,
ReplyDeleteI really liked your post. I remember when I was in high school, I tried to sign up for Facebook when MySpace was starting to go downhill. It asked me for my college email and I didn't have one yet and can remember being pretty mad about it. If you don't know the story behind Facebook, you should check out the movie, "The Social Network." It is a pretty entertaining movie and gives you the history of how Facebook got started and how complicated everything got for the people involved. Another thing you said in your post that I agree with was when you stated, " you are able to comment and send messages to people that you may not normally talk to." I agree with you here because I have been able to keep in touch with people that I never thought I would see again after high school. This has been one of the many positives regarding my Facebook usage. I also agree it's a great site to visit if you bored.
Hey Lauren,
ReplyDeleteIn reference to how Facebook began, when I first joined the only allowed people with college email accounts. It made it more exclusive to the college audience. However, while reading this article, I remembered the days where MySpace ruled the social network world. Now, Facebook is definitely the most popular social network site. I totally agree with you and am guilty of drifting off into Facebook for entertainment purposes and to see what people have posted. One thing tends to lead to another and next thing I know, I'm reading an article that I would have never found without the post of a friend. I also agree that social interactions are primary reasons of why people use these website, especially in a sense to stay connected with new, old, and current friend that we have met throughout the years. That's the primary reason why I use Facebook.
