In the article “The
Quality of Online Social Relationships” it’s interesting to read about how the
media has changed the way we communicate. Right in the beginning it discusses
how people feel face-to-face communication is the best way for you to create
and maintain social relationships. There are so many online dating, social
media websites out there. These sites can be helpful, but you don’t get the
full effect as you do when you talk to someone face-to-face. The article also
discusses what people think email is most useful for. Today they say it’s only
really good for communicating people specific information, while relationships was
rated the lowest. It’s hard to create relationships through email. You have to
constantly check it and take the time to respond to new emails. Social media
websites have created instant chats where you are given the choice to send
someone an instant message, which has helped create faster responses between
the two people.
Hello Lauren, I agree that face to face communication is the best way of creating good social relationships. There are so many other factors that go into contributing to two peoples social relationship with one another. Having a relationship with someone over email has to be very tough. Especially because it blocks out most of the emotional cues that come with face to face communication. I personally would get very bored with emailing somebody that much to where we could have a relationship through email. Social media websites on the other hand may make it much easier then communication over email.
